To Apply:
You must complete an enrollment application with a staff member to be considered for any of the programs listed below. To complete an application we need you to provide us with the following:

  • Child's Birth Certificate or Birth Record
  • Income Verification for the past 12 months or previous year (w-2's, tax forms, pay stubs, SSI letter, Child Support print out, Work First, etc.)

We also ask that you provide us with your child's Social Security Number due to our Child Nutrition program's requirements. We must have the child's SSN to issue a McDowell County School System Pin Number for meal tracking purposes.

If we do not receive all the required information your child's application it is INCOMPLETE and does not go on our waiting list for placement.

If you do submit all required information, your child's application will be ranked by the number of Recruitment Points scored on their application. Your child will be placed on our waiting list and will be placed in a slot according to their rank when one becomes available.

Children with disabilities are given priority for enrollment. If your child has a disability please bring all of the paperwork that you have documenting their disability with you at the time of application. This helps us know which agencies are already working with your child.

Children who are considered "homeless", who are foster children, or receive SSI or TANF are categorically eligible irregardless of income.

Early Head Start serves pregnant women and children birth to 3 in both a Center based and Home based option. Center based means the child attends the center 5 days per week. In Home Base, a Home Visitor comes to the house once per week for 1.5 hours and provides developmentally appropriate activities for the child and resources and education for the parent.

Head Start serves children that are 3 by August 31st of the current school year until age 5 (not age eligible for kindergarten)

More at Four serves only four year olds that will be entering Kindergarten the next school year. These children must be 4 by August 31st of the current school year. The income guidlines for More at Four are higher than those of Head Start. More at Four 2009-2010

Health Requirements for ALL programs:

  • Up-to-date Physical Exam
  • Up-to-date Immunization record
  • Current Insurance Information
